My name is Megan, and I am a fat flyer.
I love to travel...but I haaaaate sitting on airplanes. I am fairly certain that others hate sitting next to me on airplanes too. As a fat person you really learn the nuances between airlines seats and space (JetBlue: great leg space, short seatbelts, uncomfortably pitched seat backs. American: tiny and crappy space. Longer seatbelts...etc). You also learn to ask for the dreaded 'seatbelt extension' without crying (yes, I used to cry and make Jim ask for me).
Anyway, why am I posted about flying. Well, I had occasion to fly to Chicago this past weekend for what was supposed to be a huge super fun Girl's Weekend - just the way I wanted to 'go out' before heading into surgery. What happened in reality? My daughter got a stomach bug last week and was home for 4 days with diarrhea. Guess what she gave me as a parting gift. Yeaaaaa... So, instead of partying all weekend with friends I was lying in bed either moaning in pain, puking or shitting. GOOD TIMES.
What I did realize though during my very uncomfortable flight out (on American) is that I want to add 'more comfortable air travel' on to my list of Things I Can't Wait For After Losing Weight. I can't wait to be able to put both arms down on the arm rest (and not have my arm take over half of the next seat), I can't wait for my ass to not be so wedged in between the armrests that I can't move a centimeter side to side, I can't wait to be able to plug in my headphones or use (see...) armrest mounted TV controls, while I don't cry anymore I can't wait to be able to not worry about the seatbelt fitting, I can't wait to maybe be able to sleep on a plane?!. So much. So much I can't wait for. I have to keep these exciting things in mind as the surgery draws nearer and my nerves grow stronger.
This weekend was my last flight ever as a morbidly obese passenger. and that? is pretty awesome.
ONE WEEK FROM TODAY. HOLY CRAP.
