Post-VSG hair loss, I haz it.
Hair loss was one of the known side-effects of VSG (and really any surgery) that I was warned about and hoped to avoid. I have been taking a Biotin pill every day and have been really trying to get all my protein in ever day in an attempt to keep falling hair at bay. Guess what? It didn't work. Just like when I was postpartum, I started losing hair by the fist full during the 3rd months post-op. It really peaked in months 4 and 5 (June and July, basically) when I would just be sitting there and feel it fall out. I mean I touched my head and my hand came away covered in hair. I started to get really nervous because it was actually way more intense than what I experienced postpartum.
I took to the interwebz and read up on it and everything I read seemed to say that it usually is around months 3-5 and that it WILL grow back. Phew.
I hit 5 months on August 11 and I swear to God, overnight the hair loss has decreased dramatically. Now, I was always kind of a "shedder" leaving hair on the drain every time I shower, but now I'm not pulling fist fulls out as I shampoo. I still get a lot out when I comb, but no where near as much as before. I think it's finally slowing. THANK GOD.
I don't know if it's really visible to anyone other than me but you can definitely feel it. My pony tails are skinnier, etc. My right temple is also really bare and I hate it.
So, let the new little fuzzy regrowth start (hopefully).
