Six months today I went to the hospital to have an elective surgery that has changed my life in profound ways. Let's look back, shall we?
In the past 6 months I.....
1. Lost 104 lbs.
2. Gained new found confidence
3. Became more able to play with my daughter in ways she wants to play (not with Mom sitting on the sideline).
4. Improved my health so hopefully I'm around for a long long while
5. Went from walking 14 mins and thinking I was dying to easily doing 3 miles at a time. This past week I walked a total of 12 miles!
6. Have moved from not exercising at all to someone who is contemplating the Couch to 5K program
7. Became able to go off medication for insulin resistance.
8. Lowered my blood pressure.
9. Found I no longer have debilitating back/joint pain.
10. Sleep so soundly and don't need a CPAP machine any more.
11. Became able to cross my legs (!)
12. Went down 4 sizes.
13. Began to shop at 'regular' size stores (even if I'm still at their high end of sizes....) :)
14. Have been in weekly therapy to help me understand my food addiction in the hopes of eradicating it (or at least recognizing triggers and developing coping mechanisms).
15. Have become more social and, while I still need my depression meds, I do feel the clouds lifting a little.
.....
and so, so much more. The lead up to the surgery, all the prep, was annoying and marked by road block after road block and then the immediate weeks post-surgery weren't fun. At all. BUT, even acknowledging all those things, I'd still do it all over again in a heartbeat.
I asked my PCP before surgery about her other patients who had done it and what their feeling was looking back on it. I guess I wondered if anyone regretted it. She said without fail everyone commented that they only wish they'd done it sooner. I couldn't agree more.
